but a hundred acorns are sown in silence by an unnoticed breeze”

Creating Photo Art

Natasha Head challenged us at New World Creative Union's Wednesday Wake-Up Call to use our  imaginations on what the four elements earth, wind, fire and water meant to us. I chose to step out of my usual poetry contribution and create art. This was created from one of my photographs and different texture layers.

If you are thinking there seems to be more fire in this one, you would be correct. This year my oldest daughter, Dawn, has faced numerous health challenges. She lost her left kidney to cancer in 2008 so she has been under the care of an oncologist. Early in the year she had to have a kidney stent put in twice. Her white blood cell count left questions as to possible Leukemia which led to a bone marrow test. Thank goodness she didn't have it! Then it was CT scans, an MRI, a PET scan and four biopsies. We got the biopsy results Wednesday and it wasn't cancer!

Dawn has been through the fire this year. She is one of the most incredible women I know. Her story should, no must, become a book. She has fought health issues for years and through it all she graduated college cum laude with a bachelor's degree in political science/journalism; was the first non law student to ever be chosen as a Texas state legislative aide; testified in front of the EPA in Houston on air quality, and well the list goes on. She is definitely a phoenix rising from the fire of adversity.

Houston Quilt Show ~ 2009

“All my scattering moments are taken up with my needle.”
Ellen Birdseye Wheaton, 1851

I took these at the Houston Quilt show in 2009.
It was an amazing display of stitched art.
