Del Monte ~ Costa Rica
On a trip to Costa Rica in 2010 I went to Del Monte's banana plantation. This is where Wal-Mart gets its bananas. In an interesting tid bit our guide told us Del Monte used to spray the bananas with chemicals to preserve them until they could reach the stores, but now it is a simple process of refrigeration that keeps them fresh until they reach markets outside Costa Rica.
